Treehouse at Easthampton Meadow is a beautiful neighborhood where children will find parents and a permanent, loving home as well as "honorary grandparents", friends, and an entire community designed to support children whose lives have been impacted by foster care.
Creating enduring family relationships and supportive community connections for children who have experienced foster care in compelling new ways is at the core of the Treehouse mission and philosophy. Treehouse at Easthampton Meadow is built around the idea that "it takes a village to raise a child" and that by providing a safe place to grow and a community of caring neighbors who understand the issues children have faced in the foster care system, we can learn to create vibrant new safety nets for entire communities. There are professional and community supports at Treehouse, dedicated to helping families and older adults in a variety of ways. Elders lend their expertise, talents and wisdom to families and each other, creating a rich tapestry of healthy relationships. An active Community Council weaves new programs
and opportunities into community life.
Treehouse opened in June 2006 in Easthampton, MA. (in the heart of the Pioneer Valley). This award winning new community is located down Button Road on Treehouse Circle, next to the White Brook Middle School and the 100 acre Nonotuck Park. Mt. Tom provides a beautiful backdrop for Treehouse Circle. Over 100 people ranging in age from 1 year to 85 years live in this innovative intentional village.
There is a Community Center with a library, kitchen, gathering space/dining hall which acts as a multi-purpose room for weekly pot lucks, movie nights, game nights, community activities, double dutch practice and much more.
The design of the neighborhood resembles a traditional village center with walkways, play areas, friendly front porches and lots of room to run and grow for community members of all ages.
Located in the lovely western Massachusetts town of Easthampton, Treehouse offers leading edge thinking for the nation: as a new model of caring for children who have experienced foster care, as a model of intergenerational community living, as a new model of engaging elders, as a model for improving the outcomes for children whose lives have been impacted by foster care, as a housing model, and a model that provides opportunities for people of all ages to thrive.
The Treehouse community offers attractive rental homes, including 48 affordable senior cottages, for individuals over 55 who want to live in a supportive, caring neighorhood. There are twelve rental homes for families, including grandparents raising grandchildren, in two story 3, 4 and 5 bedroom townhouses. Applications for elders and families are always welcome.
33 market rate homes will be available on Button Road and Treehouse Circle. People of all ages have expressed an interest in owning a home at Treehouse - folks interested in co-housing, people downsizing, former teachers and social workers who want to contribute to the success of this innovative program, foster and adoptive parents who want home equity, and people from all over the country who have heard about Treehouse and want to be a part of this new way of living.
